The sixth spot back in 2016 gave Atletico Paranaense a huge boost, but the last season brought them back down to earth regarding their ambitions and confidence. The Curtiba outfit didn't show the necessary consistency throughout the season, which proved to be fatal at the end of the day. Atletico Paranaense did push for the Copa Libertadores spots at some point, but they finished eleventh eventually. Fernando Diniz, the new manager in charge at the start of the 2018 campaign, will have to push this team in the right direction again, which won't be an easy mission. Experienced players like Thiago Carleto and Emerson Silva joined the team before the start of the league, but it remains to be seen whether the new players will push the performances to a higher level. The experienced goalkeeper Weverton for instance won't be available in 2018 to lead the defence between the posts. The goalie sealed a move to Palmeiras recently, which isn’t the best news for Atletico Paranense. Sidcley, another regular in the team, teamed up with Corinthians. Atletico Paranaense did 'prepare' some players for bigger clubs like Palmeiras and Corinthians, but the ambitions will be in Curitiba as well to push for glory.

Target

Atletico Paranaense should be able to push for a top eight, or even a top six spot if they show their best form from the first match on, but the 2018 campaign could be a difficult one. A top eight finish will be the goal though.
