A dramatic relegation back to the Serie B in 2016 when Internacional finished sixteenth frustrated the club and the fans, but the side from Porto Alegre didn't need that much time to bounce back. Internacional produced a decent campaign in 2017, which resulted in promotion back to the Serie A as they finished second, only two points behind America FC. Odair Hellmann, the manager who coached Internacional during the final weeks of last season, will face a tough mission now at the start of the new campaign. Internacional will be one of the underdogs, and creating a gap with the bottom four will be the first objective. Gabriel Dias and Roger came over form Palmeiras and Botafago and the club shopped in the Serie A as well to collect a group of loan players. A striker like the experienced Roger could be the key to success, but minor injuries frustrated the 33-year-old striker last season as well. He did bag ten goals in nineteen appearances for Botafago though, which is a creditable achievement. Internacional won't have anything to lose, but the promoted side will be motivated to prevent another drop to the Serie B. The experience will be there within the squad, but Odair will have to form a new team now, which could take some time.

Target

Internacional's goal of the season is simple: prevent the drop back to the Serie B.
