Palmeiras failed to claim a top ten position between 2011 and 2014, but things went their way later on. The green outfit finished ninth in 2015 and they managed to seal the title a year later. This wasn't all though. Palmeiras grabbed the title in 2016 and they were definitely back on track. The 2017 season was a satisfactory one, but beating Corinthians simply proved to be a bridge too far. The second spot wasn't a shame at all, but the fans will hope for better days in 2018. Roger Machado will have to form a new outfit now to put the pressure on Corinthians. Yerri Mina left the club to play for FC Barcelona, while Vitor Hugo joined Fiorentina. The club didn't add that many exciting names to their squad, but Machado should be able to form a quality side again. Players like Weverton and Marco Rocha will bring experience to the team, which is a positive point, but it remains to be seen if Palmeiras will have the quality available to push for the top spot again.

Target

Palmeiras will focus on the best possible outcome, which is the Serie A title. Whether this may prove to be beyond them remains to be seen, but it will be the ambition at the start of the season.
