Sport Recife finished sixth back in 2015, which resulted in ambition for the 2016 campaign, but the last years did not seem to satisfy the fans at all. The side from Recife finished fourteenth in 2016 and the 2017 season even saw them slip into the relegation zone at one stage. Sport Recife failed to perform during the second half of the season, which could have ended in disaster, but some crucial results towards the end saved the day eventually. It created a two-point gap with the bottom four, which was just enough to secure the Serie A spot for another season. Manager Nelsinho Baptista will face a tough mission at the start of the new campaign. Diego Souza and André, possibly Sport Recife's best players from last season, left the club and it will be tough now to prevent early pressure and relegation problems. Sport Recife did add several new players to their squad and they will be motivated now to show their skills. The club even loaned four players from promoted side Internacional. This outfit will consist of loan players mostly, which isn't an easy situation to be in, and Baptista will have to produce something special with his group to avoid the danger zone.

Target

Creating a gap with the relegation zone as soon as possible. They could push for a top ten spot if they manage to produce a satisfactory start.
