Coventry City were crowned League One champions last season in a campaign curtailed by the coronavirus outbreak. At the time, the Sky Blues were five points clear at the top and had only lost three league games. Mark Robins has kept most of his squad together but has lost talented midfielder Liam Walsh. Walsh was a revelation last season after joining on loan from Bristol City and despite hopes of getting him back he now looks like he is staying at Ashton Gate. Gustavo Hamer could be the one to slot in alongside Liam Kelly in central midfield. The combative 23-year-old has arrived from PEC Zwolle for a £1million plus fee and has all the attributes to succeed at Championship level. A further six players have been signed, including Callum O’Hare returning on a permanent deal, with recruitment focused on young players eager to impress. Coventry’s success last season was built on an excellent defensive record and maintaining this at a higher level will be key to their prospects for this campaign. While new signing Tyler Walker and Matt Godden have impressed in front of goal in the lower leagues, questions remain over whether the team as a whole can produce enough goals at this level.

Target

After returning to the Championship following eight years away survival has got to be the primary goal.
