Last season was difficult for Sheffield Wednesday with a possibility of a 12-point deduction hanging over them for much of it. They started the campaign well but a run of three wins in 19 league games made relegation a certainty if they were to be deducted the 12 points. In the end they survived as the minus points will be applied from the start of this season. This does give Garry Monk’s side an immediate uphill task but they are a team full of Championship experience. The Owls were severely weakened in attack after losing their two leading scorers from last season, Steven Fletcher and Jacob Murphy as well as Fernando Forestieri. They have signed Josh Windass and Elias Kachunga who have scored well at this level in the past. However, with Jordan Rhodes seemingly past his best, they still seem lacking in this area. Chey Dunkley has been brought in from Wigan and he is likely to slot into the centre of a solid looking back three with last season’s club player of the year Dominic Iorfa and Julian Borner. After a poor run of results at the end of last season and starting on a negative points total they need to start well to try and make the most out of this season.

Target

Squad looks good enough to perform well at this level but, starting on minus 12 points, survival has to be the primary objective.
