Middlesbrough endured a long and turbulent 2019/20 season. Boro finished a disappointing 17th and took it to the final day to ensure safety. After taking over from Jonathan Woodgate in June, Neil Warnock will be looking to calm things down in the upcoming season. Using his wealth of experience to sure things up in what was a squad in turmoil last season. Over the summer, there has been a mass exodus of regular faces including Clayton, Friend, Shotton and others as manager Neil Warnock starts his big rebuild at the Riverside. Middlesbrough have struggled to get going in the transfer market, managing to sign only Grant Hall while Marcus Browne has returned from his loan spell. Hall will be expected to be a regular starter in the defence. The key strength to the side will be the link up between midfielder Howson and Assombalonga up front. Given Warnock's firm record in the Championship, Boro will be confident in grinding out tight wins throughout the season. While Howson and Assombalonga are a strength, it is important to remember Boro were the lowest scorers last season. The defence was solid however, Boro have lost some key and regular players in defence so it will be a challenge to replicate last season's efforts.

Target

Mid-Table. After last season's relegation scare, Neil Warnock would be happy to consolidate a mid-table finish in a season of rebuilding. Improving on their 17th place finish last season should be considered a success.
