Ipswich are the longest serving current team in the Championship and there remains very little to get excited about ahead of the season start. The Tractor Boys had another dreary season last time out failing to ever seriously threaten at the top and even though at one stage it looked like they could have been drawn into the relegation picture, that was never a realistic possibility. It is somewhat surprising that Mick McCarthy is still at the club as it would appear as if he had taken the club as far as he can. Certainly summer signings offer little to get excited about. Dominic Iorfa arrives on loan from Wolves while Bersant Celina is on loan from Manchester City, Tom Adeyemi and Emyr Huws have both made loan moves permanent. McCarthy is on the look out for a regular goalscorer too with an arrival seemingly imminent, probably on loan. They will not have Tom Lawrence this season, a player who performed well on loan from Leicester in the last campaign. McCarthy has removed a lot of dead wood including Brett Pitman, Leon Best, Giles Coke and Jonathan Douglas so they should have a few more resources at their disposal in a bid to buy players. Ipswich struggled for consistency last term, being unable to string together a sequence of wins. Confidence is still not particularly high and fans will expect another season lacking in enthusiasm.

Target

It is difficult to see anything other than a season of mediocrity, the summer signings appear to have done little to change the status quo.
