Luton improved under Graeme Jones last season and finished a respectable 12th in the table. They were in mid-table throughout the season. Several important players have departed in the summer. Talismanic frontman Collins has signed for Cardiff after turning down the offer of a new contract while last season’s key playmaker Dewsbury-Hall has gone back to parent club Leicester. Centre-back Matty Pearson, an ever-present for the last three seasons, has joined Huddersfield. Jones has bolstered his side with Burke, Bell and Lansbury who seem solid acquisitions. Veteran frontman Jerome is a straight replacement for Collins. Luton beat several other Championship clubs to the signing of Motherwell’s midfield lynchpin Campbell. The 22-year-old has 24 caps for Scotland’s under-21s and played over 150 games for Motherwell. Gomes, Onyedinma and Muskwe are exciting young attacking players. Gomes comes highly rated after an excellent season with League Two Morecambe where he scored 16 goals. The Hatters paid a significant amount to secure his services and he has already impressed in pre-season. Luton are a well-run club and have established themselves as a solid Championship team under Jones. They lost some key performers over the summer but look to have made some shrewd additions. Scoring goals was a problem last season. They will hope that Jerome can at least hit 10 and their young attacking players can hit the ground running. Even with a lack of goals last season they still finished in mid-table.

Target

To continue improving - a top 10 finish.
