Millwall finished a creditable 11th last season but the campaign was slightly disappointing as they were expected to challenge for a play-off spot but never got out of mid-table. There has not been a big turnover of players during the summer at the Den. The players brought in look shrewd acquisitions. Malone and Saville are solid Championship performers. Experienced left-back Malone was a regular starter for the Lions last season in a loan spell. Young centre-back Ballard joins from Arsenal. The Northern Ireland International was mightily impressive during a loan stint at Blackpool last season. The only significant departure has been Woods who had been a regular starter during his 18 months on loan at Millwall. A lack of goals undoubtedly held Millwall back last season. They only managed 47 in their 46 league games with midfielder Jed Wallace their highest scorer with 11. Striker Afobe has been brought in from Stoke but he has failed to impress in recent seasons. He scored 5 times in 28 appearances for Turkish side Trabzonspor last season. Gary Rowett’s side are a solid Championship outfit who are difficult to beat. They look to have done most of their transfer business early so should be well prepared for the start of the season.

Target

Will be aiming to challenge for the play-off places. Lack of goals could cost them again.
