Finished 15th, last season. Came really close to relegation group. Lost the Regional State Championship on the penalties shootout to second division Náutico. Sport brought quiet few good players for the next season, mostly attackers. Everaldo, André, Trellez and Jonas Toró will be more than enough to cover for Dalberto's departure. The players expected to have a quicker impact are the centre-half Sabino and the forward/winger Róbson. The left-footed defender arrived on loan from Santos, but he spent last season with Coritiba, just like the winger/forward Róbson whose goals this season gave already an idea on how dangerous he may be. Coach Umberto Louzer will have his first attempt at coaching a Série A team, after having turned specialist into promoting teams into Série A (Coritiba in 2019; Chapecoense in 2020). It seems that Sport will be presenting a back-3 formation, which suits very well the amount of reliable centre-halves they currently possess: Adryelson and Maidana made a very good partnership, but now they will have the company of the excellent Sabino. Playmaker Thiago Neves remains as the team's star. Renteria and Thiago Lopes are now at Recife to help Neves to feel comfortable on his attacking moves.

Target

Despite stronger than last season, Sport won't be aiming for anything more than winning the race to avoid relegation.
