After seven years in the lower divisions Pisa are finally back in Serie B. Yet the past season didn't start well, too many ups and downs in the first two months that were keeping the nerazzurri far from the top table. At this point the club decided to fire Giancarlo Favarin and entrust the bench to Gennaro Gattuso. The former Italy international did an excellent job helping his team to end the regular season in 2nd place behind Spal and therefore qualify for the playoffs. After beating Maceratese, Pordenone and in the final Foggia they could celebrate promotion. Unfortunately at the beginning of August Gattuso resigned because of some disagreements with the club owner. For the moment the bench was entrusted to the Primavera coach Colonnello, but everybody is awaiting the return of Gattuso. The former Milan player usually relied on a very attacking 4-3-3 system of play. The new season has already begun in the best way with Pisa reaching the fourth round of Coppa Italia where they will face Torino. In the second round they defeated Brescia and in the third one Salernitana, both victories came away from the Arena Garibaldi stadium. During the summer transfer campaign they wisely decided not to make great changes, but signed a couple of experienced players like goalkeeper Ujkani and former Sassuolo defender Longhi and a bunch of some very interesting youngsters.

Target

The main goal of Pisa will be to avoid being relegated immediately in Lega Pro and hopefully reach a quiet mid-table survival. Much will depend on whether the club will resolve problems that have lately destabilized all the environment.
