Football Season Guide

The past one was a very disappointing season for Latina who struggled till the end to avoid relegation at last reaching the 16th place. Always in the last positions of the table, clearly involved in the relegation struggle, managed to avoid Lega Pro only in the last round. Many players have fallen short of expectations, also the behavior of the club that changed three coaches has led to some confusion, although the last, Carmine Gautieri, thanks to a brave 4-3-3, helped the team to escape relegation. During last year's summer transfer market Latina had been very active changing many players...probably this was the main problem, too many new faces. Maybe that's why the nerazzurri have made few changes during the last transfer campaign. Some players on loan, such as Calderoni, Dumitru, Ujkani and Mbaye, went back to their home clubs, while the main new arrivals are the ones of goalkeeper Pinsoglio and defender Garcia Tena, both on loan from Juventus. Moreover they signed midfielders Varga and De Vitis, both coming from Sampdoria. The main change is on the bench where Carmine Gautieri was replaced by Vincenzo Vivarini, a major change as Gautieri usually opted for a very attacking 4-3-3 system of play, while the former Teramo coach, with no experience in Serie B yet, relies on a more cautious 3-5-2. Meanwhile in the second round of Coppa Italia Latina defeated Matera, but were then kicked out by Novara after extra time.
