Football Season Guide

Last season, the Yellow Canaries unexpectedly lost many points at home which cost them the title race. As expected, the club president appointed coach Aykut Kocaman who begins his second spell at the helm of Fenerbahce. Since the club haven't had great success in a long time, the fans expect him to do great things this season. There is already big pressure on him and the team. During the summer transfer market, they lost Jeremain Lens who was very productive last season. His position was filled by Nabil Dirar from Monaco. The Moroccan had to cope with a calf injury for much of last season but the coach hopes that he will be fit and able enough to fill Lens’ role. Fener lacked a quality attacking midfielder last season but the fans hope that the newcomer Mathieu Valbuena will take that responsibility. In the goalkeeper position, everything looks fine after Carlos Kameni arrived to compete with Volkan Demire. The board sold Simon Kjaer to Sevilla so only Martin Skrtel and Roman Neustädter remain as experienced centre-backs. It is a must for the club to bring in a new defender before the summer transfer market is closed. The defensive flanks look secure especially the right-back position with Mauricio Isla’s arrival. Up front, it seems like the squad is short after Emmanuel Emenike and Moussa Sow left in the summer. Besides that, Fernandao is still trying to recover from injury so they need to add an attacker considering their busy schedule. In the midfield, Mehmet Topal, Josef de Souza and Ozan Tufan should provide stability towards helping the defence as well as making the team transition to attack quickly. There is good quality in this Fenerbahce squad but they may struggle to compete in three competitions unless they add some new faces to the required areas.
