The most pressing question surrounding Trabzonspor seems to be regarding how will they kick off the new season. Will it be with the great self-confidence they showed in the early fixtures of 2017 or with the lowered motivation they displayed in the late weeks of last season? The board have a great belief in coach Ersun Yanal. That is why they continue to work with him this term. There is no doubt that the fans want to see more success from the team though. Trabzon did not face any major departures during the summer. Burak Yilmaz returned to the club after a five year absence. With Dame N'Doye and Hugo Rodallega also on the books, the coach looks satisfied with his offensive options. The defence lost Zeki Yavru and Musa Nizam but Aykut Demir returned to the team following his loan move. Kamil Corekci was also signed in from Eskisehir. He is expected to cover for Joao Pereira at right-back. In the midfield, Trabzon are likely to be a lot tougher following the arrival of Juraj Kucka from AC Milan. Considering that they also have Okay Yokuslu and Ogenyi Onazi, the target will be to concede less goals this time. The squad has lots of wide options including Sefa Yilmaz, Olcay Sahan, Yusuf Erdogan and Fabian Castillo. Theo Bongonda was loaned in from Celta Vigo to join them. At this point, there is only Yusuf Yazici as a creative midfielder. Since Mehmet Ekici left the team to join Fenerbahce, it seems like they are short in that role. There is no change in goal as Onur Kivrak and Esteban will compete for that position. If Trabzonspor can manage to bring in an attacking minded midfielder, it would be great. In general, their squad has the potential to finish the season in the top places.

Target

To finish in the top 5 is a more realistic goal than to win the title. They may fulfil the fans’ longing for a trophy with the Turkish Cup.
