Football Season Guide

Last season should be evaluated in two different parts for Karabuk. Before coach Igor Tudor left them to join Galatasaray, their performance was satisfactory considering their squad level. After the board filled the managerial role with Zoran Barisic, it did not go well. That is why the board decided to appoint Erkan Sozeri who will make his top level debut as a head coach. It could be said that their home form enabled them to survive in the Super Lig last season but they certainly have to improve on their travels. In general, the fans did not like the club’s summer transfer market policy. Only Ferhat Gorgulu was signed as a defender but none of last season’s backline left the team. Besides that, Hamidou Traore from a 1st division side and Yolcu Mansiz from a 2nd division side were added into the midfield. The fans seem to feel that these signings are not good enough for a Super Lig team. According to them, the board are basically preparing a return to the 1st division. Karabuk's offensive performance was also quite poor last season as they only outscored five other teams. Mustapha Yatabaré & Yevhen Seleznyov stayed which is one of the positives ahead of the new season. However, they still lack a creative midfielder and if they cannot get one in, it might be too difficult to produce a better offensive performance than last season. To summarise, a very tough season awaits Karabuk unless they manage to improve their defensive mentality and bring in an assist machine.
