After Konyaspor won the Turkish Cup last season, the fans will expect to see their team do a good job again this time around but it will not be easy as they will compete in three competitions. First of all, the board appointed coach Mustafa Akcay after Aykut Kocaman left the club to join Fenerbahce. Akcay did a good job when he was in charge of Osmanlispor. He is aware that it is going to be a tough season because some teams have built strong squads and a very busy schedule awaits them. A deeper squad was certainly necessary and the club have strengthened over the summer. In goal, they signed Patrik Carlgren to compete alongside Serkan Kirintili. After losing Jagos Vukovic and Barry Douglas, Wilfred Moke was brought in as a centre-back whilst two left-backs were drafted in from Basaksehir. That along with the likes of Ali Turan, Selim Ay and Volkan Findikli, the squad looks secure in defence. In the midfield, they are still quite strong as Ali Camdali, Amir Hadziahmetovic and Jens Jonsson stayed. Mehdi Bourabia was also brought in from Levski Sofia. Considering his performances last season, he needs to work hard to get into the first team. Despite some strong offers, Omer Ali stayed in Konya while Riad Bajic left for Udinese. Once again, the fans expect to see the team offer a good offensive performance. In order to have some options up front, Seddar Karaman, Abdou Traore and Imoh Ezekiel were all acquired. It seems like the board learned their lesson from last season. On the paper, Konya have a decent squad to be successful but they need to get used to coping with a heavy schedule.
